I was ordained and installed as the pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on June 21, 2015. Before attending Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, I met my wife, Liz, while we were students at Michigan State University. I’ve worked for Apple, as a TV news producer, technology columnist and public relations social media specialist. Liz works as an independent beauty consultant for Mary Kay. Liz and I have three kids, Rebekah, Ezekiel, and Grace, and a fourth on the way. My kids attend Oxford Public Schools. If you have any questions about the church, about Christianity, or about me reach out via email.
My husband, Steve and I live just a mile north of Holy Cross. We have 2 daughters. Kristen is 19 years old and lives with the grandparents while attending U of M Dearborn. Caitlin is 17 years old, and is dual enrolled at Oxford High School and Rochester College. Believe it or not, both girls were students here at Holy Cross Christian Preschool. I am blessed to be a member of the Holy Cross church family for over 26 years now and to have been on the Holy Cross Christian Preschool staff since 2004. My educational background includes a child development associate credential, an associates degree in early childhood development, a bachelor’s in business, and hundreds (I do mean hundreds) of training hours in early childhood education. I’m looking forward to getting to know the families this year & I’m excited for the friendships, field trips, messy art projects, science experiments, Bible lessons and the organized chaos that is preschool. Just thinking about it makes my heart sing! Email: email@example.com
I am blessed to be part of the Holy Cross Contemporary Worship Team as a guitar player and singer. I grew up and still live in Metamora with my wife Kim and our three wonderful daughters, Reese, Brynn and Paige. Kim and I became aware of Holy Cross when we were looking for a Christian preschool for Reese and Holy Cross Christian Preschool came highly recommended from a friend who's daughter had attended. In 2016 Brynn also attended and our youngest daughter Paige is currently attending. Through being involved with the preschool we got to know the school staff, Pastor Matt and his family and we started attending Church services at Holy Cross. When I heard the Church was in need of musicians for the contemporary music worship team I talked to Pastor Matt and Alta Brakefield about helping out. I had never played in a worship team before but I had about 15 years experience in leading my own blues and classic rock bands and I thought I could apply that experience to serving in the worship team. I started practicing with the team and soon became a member, playing a few services a month. When I started with the worship team I never thought I would end up in the position of leading the team but I am so thankful and happy to have been given the opportunity!
If you or someone you know plays an instrument or sings please send them my way! We are always ready to welcome new people to the team. You don't have to be an experienced musician. I know there some people out there who "used to play" an instrument or those who play but think they "aren't good enough". What could be a better reason to pick that instrument back up and start playing again than to play for the Lord? And for those who might feel they're "not good enough" players, let's talk! I'll bet you're better than you think! Feel free to email me or just come say "hi" if you see me at church!
I joined the team at Holy Cross as Communications Lead in June 2017. After graduating from Oakland University in 2005 with a degree in Journalism I worked for a few newspapers before shifting into freelance work so I could stay home with my two children. When both kids were old enough to attend school I stepped back into the workforce, eventually joining with JAE Jewelers in Oxford as their Marketing and Media Manager. Through them I got involved with the Oxford community and met Pastor Matt through the our mutual involvement with the Oxford Chamber of Commerce. He encouraged me to apply for the position of Communications Lead when it became available and now here I am! I currently live in the village of Metamora with my husband, Andy, and our kids, Kat and Josh. Feel free to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Growing up in Mid-Michigan I was actively involved in the music programs at my church. I took classes at Lansing Community College and Concordia University, Ann Arbor. I met my husband, Derek while working at Echo Grove Camp. In 2014, we welcomed our daughter, Annabelle into our family. I've served as an organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Berrien Springs. In 2015, we moved to the Metro Detroit area in order to be closer to family and became members at Holy Cross soon after. I am so thankful to be a part of the music ministry here. If you sing or play an instrument or know someone who does and would like to be involved in music at church, please let me know. No prior music experience necessary! Email me or just catch me at church on Sunday. I would be more than happy to talk with you!
